William Frederick Gibbons (born December 16, 1949) [1] is an American rock musician, best known as the guitarist and primary vocalist of ZZ Top. He began his career in Moving Sidewalks, who recorded Flash (1969) and opened four dates for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Gibbons formed ZZ Top in late 1969 and released ZZ Top's First Album in early 1971.

It was one of the three custom-made electric guitars that Gretsch built for the man who was there at the beginning of rock 'n' roll. The original Jupiter Thunderbird was given as a gift to ZZ Top guitar player, Billy F. Gibbons, by Bo himself.

The Jupiter was later donated as a gift to ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons who used it on some ZZ Top recordings. Since Gibbons did not want to risk subjecting the rare guitar to touring and live performances, Gibbons approached Gretsch with the idea of reproducing the Jupiter Thunderbird.
